And it’s time, analysts say, for Big Blue to decide whether there’s room enough in town for the both of them. “At this point, the AS/400 Division is beyond its customer base,” says Tom Bittman, Gartner Group vice president of technology and marketing. “There simply aren’t that many customers who need that kind of performance. IBM needs to make a call now whether they want the AS/400 to flat-out compete with the mainframe.” |
