Editor's Summary:
IBM this fall will release AIX 5L combining support for open source Linux with performance-boosting features aimed at Big Blue's traditional high-end user base. The operating system will be the first AIX version capable of running on both IBM Power-based systems and on Intel Corp.'s upcoming IA-64 architecture, according to IBM. The marriage will give current AIX users another platform on which to run their applications on. It will also give Linux users a way to combine their applications with the scalability and availability of AIX, an IBM official said. |
