"text"
This is useful when you want to find a specific phrase.

Example(s):
"java in v4r2."

will find pages that contain the exact phrase somewhere in the page content.
(Remember, if you type this phrase without the quotes, AltaVista may return results that have all three words, but not necessarily in that order, or next to one another.)
+ text
This is useful in queries that consist of multiple words or phrases. You can put a plus sign ("+") in front of the word(s) that must be included in your results.

Example(s):
+java development tools

will ensure that the word "java" appears in every result on the results list.
anchor: text
Finds pages that contain the specified word or phrase in the text of a hyperlink.

Example(s):
anchor:"Visit search390"

will find pages with "Visit search390" as a link.
applet: class
Finds pages that contain a specified Java applet.

Example(s):
applet:morph

will find pages using applets called morph.
domain: domain-name
Finds pages within the specified domain.

Example(s):
domain:de

will find pages from Germany, or use domain:org to find pages from organizations.
host: name
Finds pages on a specific computer.

Example(s):
host:altavista.digital.com

will find pages on the AltaVista computer.

host:dilbert.unitedmedia.com

will find pages on the computer called dilbert at unitedmedia.com.
image: filename
Finds pages with images having a specific filename.

Example(s):
image:170e

will find pages with images called 170e.
link: URLtext
Finds pages with a link to a page with the specified URL text.

Example(s):
link:search390

will find all pages linking to search390
title: text
Finds pages that contain the specified word or phrase in the page title (which appears in the title bar of most browsers).

Example(s):
title:Storage

will find pages with 'Storage' in the title.
URL: text
Finds pages with a specific word or phrase in the URL.

Example(s):
url:search

will find all pages on all servers that have the word search in the host name, path, or filename-- in other words, the complete URL.
